Yoga, Meditation, Belly Dance and Arthritis Exercise Teacher
I’ve always been a student of yoga (the physical practice) and I knew how good it was for me and others, so I was a dedicated practitioner for many years before I decided to teach. It wasn’t till my Mother became ill that I really saw how Yoga, Meditation and Faith helped her tremendously which helped her heal. This is when I got “the calling” to teach and share these amazing healing practices with anyone who would listen to me….so I began to study the philosophy of yoga.
In 2006 I graduated from OM yoga center in NYC where I focused my studies on yoga therapeutics and aliment based yoga practices taught from a Buddhist Philosophy. During and after my training I realized that compassion and love is FREE and easy to give and get if you just practice. Shortly after my training I began to teach at a women’s healing center in a major hospital. I loved watching the women in my class transform and become healthier. I went on to completed a training course with the Arthritis Foundation and now I am a trained exercise teacher and teach in hospitals as well as health centers. In 2008 I graduated from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition and I hold a certificate of accreditation as a Health Care Counselor from the Teachers College of Columbia University and the American Association of Drug-less Practitioners (AADP).
Since 2005 I have been a student of Middle Eastern Dance/Oriental Dance and I’m well versed in all aspects of their techniques. I studied with Safiya, a highly accomplished teacher for many years. Learning this art of dance with the use of finger cymbals and veils, I continue to study and dance in NYC and in my home in Goa, India. I use moves, and music to open the body, which allows my students to express them selves truly and freely.
In 2007 I founded a company called Choices New York today it’s known as the Shiva Shakti Yoga Shala. My mission is to provide people the proper tools to lead a more balanced lifestyle. My healing approach to diet and exercise is based on the oldest science of life – Ayurveda. I travel the world teaching yoga as a way to heal naturally and to help the individual feel more connected to everything.

My name is Kate Marie and my yoga journey began about 6 years ago when I began to experience a lot of uncomfortable anxiety. My mind and body needed something to release these thoughts, so I began to take my practice more seriously. Ever since then, my practice has brought me pure happiness, a different perspective on life, and it has made me a better me! I am currently a college student studying social work and wish to work with holistic health and wellness. I am also an artist- I design my own original handmade jewelry and I also love to paint, draw, and collage! My mission is to combine my love for yoga, holistic wellness, and art to help others along with their own personal spiritual journey. I have a true passion for the practice and therapy of yoga, it has brought me such freedom and positive changes into my life. I believe yoga is magical because it is an opportunity to create space in your body and mind for creativity, balance, and love which then creates healing. If I could preach anything about yoga, it is to always do what feels good!
